About Ogrant

What's an Ogrant?
It's an Online Grant!

To be more specific, it's a financial reward ~ with a twist. There are a couple of big differences between traditional grants and Ogrants:
  • The application methods consist of videos and pictures.
  • The decision making process is fully interactive, meaning that all applications are posted on this website and the Ogrant community is heavily involved in deciding which applicants get awarded each Ogrant.

How does it work?
Each Ogrant offered will go through three phases:

Submit an application to a grant or scholarship of your choice  grant scholarship financial aid  The community will help decide if your grant or scholarship application deserves financial aid  grant scholarship financial aid  The sponsor of the Ogrant will make the final decision on if your grant or scholarship application should be awarded financial aid based on student votes

Submit Application Phase:  Select an Ogrant you want to apply for and upload your application before the deadline.

Community Support Phase:  If your application meets the criteria and rules, it will be posted online and judged by the Ogrant community.

Award Selection Phase:  Based on the community feedback and support, the sponsor/administrator of the Ogrant will decide if you deserve an Ogrant.

How many Ogrants are available?
Think of this site as a one-stop shop for interactive online grants.

That being said, we will be introducing new Ogrants all the time. One of our mandates is to encourage corporations, small-businesses, and wealthy individuals to be socially responsible and give back to students by creating their own Ogrants.

Was Ogrant Created by the Government?
Not even close. We're actually just a couple of guys that want to create positive social change. We graduated University back in 2002 and 'worked for the man' for a few years. We finally decided to look into grad school but while searching for scholarships and grants available, we quickly realized that the process and application methods did not appeal to most students. Sharing our frustrations with many others in debt, we realized that there really wasn't a creative avenue for students to get rewarded for their talents and abilities. We dipped deep into our savings, asked for a few loans, and a year later, Ogrant is now born!
How are Ogrants funded?
One of the reasons we started this website is to encourage corporations, small-businesses, organizations, and wealthy individuals to be more socially responsible by providing financial aid to students. We are working hard to get as many organizations to create their own Ogrants so that students have many Ogrants to choose from all year round.

Why can't I apply if I'm a Quebec resident?
After many hours spent calling Quebec trying to find out the rules of distributing money throughout their Province, we came to one conclusion, its a tough and expensive process. Money that could be going to students throughout Canada, would be going to a group called the "Regis des Jeux". This board is set up by the Quebec provincial government and imposes a tax on monetary value distributed throughout Canada (if Quebec residents are eligible to be awarded). Anyone who runs a service like ours in Quebec has to give the Regis des Jeux 10% of the monetary value. Not only is this tax commission expensive, but it also involves weeks, maybe months, of applications, justifications, and reports. So even though we would love to include contestants from Quebec, at this time the Regis des Jeux quite honestly, presents too many loopholes.

HOWEVER, if your hometown is outside of Quebec but you are studying in Quebec, you are eligible to apply for an Ogrant. For those of you from Quebec, rest assured, we are working hard to ensure that this service is available for you in the near future.

What if I am in high school and want to apply?
If you are a final year high school student want to an Ogrant, send an e-mail to highschool@ogrant.com. Include your full name, high school name, and province of residence. Once we receive the e-mail, we will verify your high school status and give you further instructions on how to proceed with the application submission process.

Phase Two: Community Support

Where can I view all approved applications?
To view and filter through approved submissions, click on the Click to view grant and scholarship submissions that are eligible for financial aid and that have already been awarded money for their education button. You will be taken to the following page:

The View and Vote page displayed all grant and scholarship submissions. Click on SUPPORT APPLICANTS to help decide which students get awarded a grant or scholarship

  • Click  View awarded grant and scholarship applications  to view all awarded applications.

By clicking on a thumbnail, you will be taken to that applications viewing page.

What's Community Support?
During the Community Support Phase for each Ogrant, users that have registered with a valid post-secondary school e-mail address can help decide who gets awarded financial aid.

The support bar shown below will be displayed on each applications viewing page.

Each grant and scholarship application will have its own support bar during the Community Support Phase. Click on SUPPORT to add your profile picture to the box and increase the applicants score by 1. This will increase the chances of the applicant being awarded a grant or scholarship

If you are a registered student, click 'SUPPORT' to vote for an applicant! The more supports an applicant has, the more likely it is to be selected as an Ogrant awardee by the administrator/sponsor of the Ogrant during the Award Selection Phase.

Why do I have to register with a valid school e-mail address to vote?
After speaking with a ton of students over the past year, one of the biggest frustrations they have voiced is that with current sources of financial aid do not allow them to have a say as to which students get awarded. That’s why we’ve decided to allow students to help decide who gets awarded each Ogrant.

To be considered a student on Ogrant, you must provide a valid post-secondary school e-mail address upon registration and then click the verification link sent to your e-mail account.

Enter a valid school e-mail address to apply and vote for grant and scholarship submissions. If you're school e-mail address is not in our database, you can request to have it added

If you would like to upgrade your account OR request your school to be added to our database, visit the  Account Settings for your Ogrant account  section in your user profile.

What if my e-mail address was not recognized as a valid post-secondary school e-mail address?
Visit your  Account Settings for your Ogrant account  page in your user profile where you can upgrade your account to student status OR request your school to be added to our database...

Your My Account page allows you to change your profile settings. You can also upgrade your account to student status or request your school to be added to our database

What other ways can I provide feedback?
On each applications viewing page, you can leave feedback. The difference between feedback and a support is that, with feedback, you can state your criticism or suggest ways of improving. This will also be heavily considered when the sponsor/administrator decides the final awardees.

Leave feedback for grant or scholarship submissions on the viewing page

How much influence do I actually have on deciding the awardees?
That depends on the sponsor/administrator of the Ogrant. On each instructions page, there is a section called Awards Selection. For example, one Ogrant may have the following award selection criteria:

Each instructions page lists the award selection criteria for the grant or scholarship

Phase Three: Award Selection

How will I know if i've been awarded an Ogrant?
If you are awarded an Ogrant, you will be notified through the e-mail address entered in your  Account Settings for your Ogrant account  page. In the e-mail, you will be given further instructions on how to proceed to the verification process and receive your Ogrant award money.

When are Ogrants awarded?

A yellow star  This star is placed beside the current phase in the key dates panel  is placed beside the current phase. In the above example, the Ogrant is currently in the Submit Application Phase.

How many Ogrants can I be awarded?
There is no limit to the amount of Ogrants you can be awarded. As long as your applications are good enough, the sky's the limit! Keep in mind that you cannot submit the same application for multiple Ogrants.

Where can I view the awardees?
